BACKGROUND CHECKS
About Background Checks
Wyoming applicants are required to participate in a criminal background check (fingerprint based), a national sex offender registry check, a Wyoming child abuse and neglect check, including states of residency in the past 5 years, as well as state sex offender registry checks for Wyoming and states of residency in the past 5 years.
Criminal Background Check:
This is a fingerprint based criminal history record check (processed through Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to determine if the applicant has been convicted of any criminal offenses that are identified in the Wyoming Child Care Licensing Rules or the Wyoming Child Care Purchase of Services Rules. A National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR) check is completed with this request.

Criminal Background Checks for Child Care Licensing in Other States:
If you have lived in Wyoming in the last five (5) years and are needing a Wyoming State or Western Identification Network (WIN) background check conducted to work at a child care facility in another state; please reach out to your local Child Care Licensing/Lead Agency for instructions on how to obtain that background check from Wyoming. Each State Licensing Agency has specific instructions on the process and to save you time and money; we strongly recommend checking with your child care licensing agency. The Wyoming Department of Family Services is unable to process background checks for employment in another State.
In the event that your State does not have a process in place to obtain a background check from another state; please use the Interstate Child Care Background Check Contact List to obtain instructions for obtaining a background check for the state repository.

Child Abuse and Neglect Records Check(s):
