The Wyoming Department of Family Services’ work centers around three values:
- Safe at home;
- Giving families opportunities for success; and
- Supporting the people who support the families.
The Department achieves this vision by giving families opportunities for success throughout their interactions with the Department. Families come in contact with the Department for many reasons, including but not limited to, child abuse and neglect services, adult protection services, juvenile justice services, assistance with food or child care, and child care licensing. Many of the Department’s goals reflect the Department’s desire to improve upon the practice and service delivery that enhance families’ abilities to be successful and remain safe at home. More information can be found in the Department’s SFY 2024-2026 Three-Year Strategic Plan.
Korin A. Schmidt was appointed by Governor Mark Gordon to lead the Department of Family Services in February, 2019.
The Wyoming Department of Family Services works with three advisory councils. Most members are appointed by the Governor, while some are legislators appointed by House or Senate leadership.
Department of Family Services Advisory Council
The DFS Advisory Council operates in conjunction with the Department of Family Services (Wyoming Statute 9-2-2106). Its mission is to provide program support, guidance, advocacy, feedback and act as a liaison to the department, functions which are guided by the department’s own mission statement. Most members are appointed by the Governor to serve three-year terms. The Senate President and Speaker of the House each appoint one member from the legislative body.
